Hiking & Walking Holidays in North Devon, UK
If you enjoy hiking and walking holidays, or even just a casual afternoon stroll, North Devon is the perfect spot to stretch your legs and get a bit of fresh air. From well-known routes and trails, to paths that are off the beaten track, there are plenty of North Devon walks for the entire family to enjoy and many are dog friendly too.
Where to walk in North Devon
The Baggy Point circular walk is a popular destination all year round. The 4.5 mile hike starts in beautiful Croyde before taking in Baggy Point and the panoramic views over Woolacoombe Sands. Then continue over the top of the headland, where you join the famous South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail, before making your way back to Croyde. Expect to enjoy beautiful wildflowers and local birds, and look out for the odd rock climber scaling the cliffs.
Or take a stroll along Putsborough Marine Drive above Morte Bay. You can see all the way from Baggy Point to Morte Point and out to Lundy Island. This is an easy access walk that’s suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.
No hiking or walking holiday in North Devon is complete without a visit to Exmoor National Park. There are 1000km of footpaths and bridleways to explore which take you through ancient woodlands, over open farmland and across wild moorland, blanketed in heather. Look out for the butterflies, bats, red deer and otters too.
Our favourite Exmoor walks include the Lyn River walk, which begins in Lynmouth and follows the East Lyn River upstream to Rockford before heading back to the coast. And the dramatic Valley of Rocks; a short circular walk that takes in a wall of towering sea cliffs. Spot the feral goats clambering around.
Walking holidays from Ash Barton
Ash Barton is surround by 25 acres of woodland, fields, gardens, wildflower meadows and lakes. So there’s plenty of opportunity to pull on your wellies and explore the countryside if you’d prefer a walk a little closer to home.
And what better way to recover after a day of hiking, walking or meandering, then heading back to the house, kicking off your shoes, putting your feet up and relaxing in front of the crackling wood stove.

The games barn was used consistently used by members of our party from all ages. The adults loved getting competitive with snooker and the kids dominated the trampoline. The outside fire pit was roaring every night - it was extremely useful for toasting marshmallows! Thank you for our time here it has given us memories never to be forgotten!
