What’s the Best Food to Serve on the Day After Your Wedding?

Advice    16.01.2020

When it comes to planning your wedding, food and drink are always high on the agenda. But have you thought about what you’re going to serve the day after your wedding?

If you’re celebrating the big day at Ash Barton, chances are you’ll have a dozen or so of your closest friends and family staying over at the house. And you could have even more if your guests have opted to glamp on the grounds. Even those that are staying at local hotels, and bed and breakfasts are likely to swing by the day after the wedding before heading off home.

So what’s on the menu?

A cooked breakfast

Everyone may be feeling slightly worse for wear after a night of partying. So a cooked breakfast could be just the thing. Task someone with this job well before the wedding day. And let everyone know that at 11am breakfast is served. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Bacon butties are always popular. (Serve avo on toast for the veggies). Or make scrambled eggs, using fresh eggs from the Ash Barton hens, and serve with smoked salmon. That always goes down a treat. If there are children staying over in your party, get them to collect the eggs in the morning. They love it.

Order your breakfast goodies from the local Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Asda. (Just say Ash Barton Manor when your order.)

Hog Roast

@ashbarton

Tender and moist pulled pork complete with crispy crackling and served with a cold craft beer, is the perfect post wedding grub. Hire a local hog roast company and all the pigs will be sourced from from local farmers. Each one is cooked to perfection on the spit, so the meat literally falls off the bone. Grill some halloumi on the BBQ for the non-meat eaters. Take a look at the Ash Barton suppliers list for hog roast suppliers.

Fish and chips

You’re near the sea. So fish and chips are always in order. Award-winning fish and chip shop Squires in nearby Braunton are friends of Ash Barton. Give them a call a week or so before the wedding and put your order in (you can tweak the order up to two hours before on the day). Then enjoy your piping hot, beautifully cooked fish and chips sitting round the fire pit with a glass of fizz. Eating them straight out of the paper is highly recommended.

Or hire in a fish and chip van. The Whiddon Wagon has done numerous Ash Barton weddings. Find them and Squires on the Ash Barton suppliers list.

Pizza, Pool and Prosecco Party

The pool patio is the perfect spot to chillax after the wedding. And why not have a relaxing splash about while you’re at it? A slice or two of pizza and a glass of prosecco is always a good choice after a night of dancing. Yes, you can order a whole load of pizzas from your favourite high street pizza joint. But even better? Book a wood fired clay oven supplier for the afternoon and enjoy authentic and flavoursome Italian pizza with your glass of bubbly.

Don’t forget to create a chill out playlist and download it to your phone. Take a look at the Ash Barton suppliers list for pizza people.

Cream teas in the walled garden

And now for something completely different. How about a cream tea, complete with scones (cream first, jam second), finger sandwiches, macarons and pots of tea all served in the walled garden? This is always a popular option with the older members of the party. Keep it really informal with blankets on the grass. Or set up wooden tables and chairs and cover with pretty tablecloths. Now’s a good time to enjoy a slice of wedding cake too.

And for the kids (and the big kids!), hire an ice cream cart for the afternoon. Take a look at the Ash Barton suppliers list.

And lastly. Don’t forget to eat the leftovers

Trust us, there will be loads left. Ask your caterers to wrap up all the leftovers and pop them in the catering fridge in the utility area next to the kitchen. Then, on the day after, spread everything out on the kitchen table and let everyone dig in.
