Joanna and Chris Enjoy a May Weekend Wedding
Interviews 07.05.2025
Chris and Joanna got married at Ash Barton this last time year, and what an incredible few days it was, with every part of the estate used.
The big day started with welcome drink served poolside, followed by the ceremony which was held by the lake under the old oak tree. Guests then walked up to the walled garden for nibbles and lawn games whilst the photos were taken. The wedding breakfast was held in the big party barn and although the couple had planned to go back to the walled garden afterwards, a surprise downfall meant a change of plans and the old chapel was used instead. Then it was back to the big party barn for late night dancing into the small hours. Many congratulations to you both.
“We got married at Ash Barton on the 25th of May. It is an incredible venue and we had the most amazing bank holiday weekend surrounded by family and friends. We took on the role of wedding planner ourselves. It was a lot of work but we had some amazing help and had the most magical day with lots of ‘us’ in it.
“Our weekend structure was: Thursday - Arrival BBQ by the firepit, Friday - Set up, Saturday - The Big Day and Sunday - post wedding social by the pool.”
Hair and make-up: Connie Gore from Iconic Makeup
"Connie did such an amazing job on Joanna’s hair and make-up. She is really friendly, focused and has excellent attention to detail. Both the hair and make-up also lasted the whole day (despite all the tears and dancing!). Would highly recommend her!"
Flowers: Sweet Peas and Sunflowers
We pre-ordered three buckets of flowers, as well as the bride's bouquet and they were all beautiful.
Co-ordinator on the day: Sophie Walker
“We are soooo glad we had a co-ordinator for the day and especially glad we chose Sophie. She was incredible and ensured that everything ticked along so that we could enjoy the day we’d worked so hard to build. She made decisions and pivoted on our behalf when we had things like the rain come up unexpectedly and helped the different parts of our plan flow well together to create exactly the type of day we wanted to have.”
Celebrant: Michelle Parfitt
"Michelle was honestly the best celebrant we could have asked for for our wedding. She is warm, thoughtful and an excellent public speaker and writer (writing a beautiful ‘love story’ that encapsulated significant moments in our relationship). She really took the time to listen to the kind of ceremony we hoped to have and worked collaboratively with us to make this a reality."
Props & Styling: Zoe from Borrow the Moon
“Getting someone to bring our ideas to life was amazing. Zoe helped us create the festival/boho vibe we wanted and sourced props for us to use throughout the weekend. We reused props in different spaces throughout the weekend. Everything looked stunning and we owe all of that to Zoe.”
Catering: Latitudes
“Chris and Lara are extremely friendly and helpful and the food on the day was amazing! Guests were truly blown away by the quality! We had Pintxos after the ceremony, Mezze for our wedding breakfast and a late-night taco stand for our evening food which people are still raving about. Highly recommend!
Ice Cream: Nico’s Creamery
Despite being served in the rain, the ice cream was a hit and a good sugar pick-me-up (accompanied by coffee) before the party. There was a large number of flavours that we were able to choose from and they were all delicious and really high quality.
Sunday Pizza: Fiamma Wood Fired Pizzas
The pizzas came out quicklty and in a ‘buffet’ style which catered for a whole range of dietary requirements. They were really tasty - the truffle one in particular was incredible!
Glamping: Native Bell Tents
“The tents were really nice and looked great! They were very easy to book, and the team were super helpful with everything.
Equipment Hire: Total Event Hire
Very useful to hire cutlery, jugs, glasses and things. They work a lot at Ash Barton so everything is just dropped off and collected without a hitch.
Band: Lo Fi (Warble Entertainment)
"We knew Lo Fi would be good from the clips we had heard but they completely blew us away. The energy they brought was outstanding and the setlist was so much fun, with some fantastic throwbacks. They are also such nice guys too! We would recommend them in a heartbeat.
Photography: Johnny Dent
“Johnny is absolutely fantastic! He did an incredible job capturing really fun, candid moments from our day. He is efficient and ensured that we weren’t away from our guests for too long during our couple photoshoots but also made these moments really fun and enjoyable. Johnny is also creative in thinking about how to use the environment and found the silver lining when it began to rain, taking the most beautiful shots of us then in the courtyard. We love his work and are so happy with the photos.”
Videography: James Toffolo & Sierra
"James and Sierra are so lovely and captured so beautifully different moments of our day. They worked so hard throughout and the video we received is gorgeous!"
"Ash Barton is such a fantastic space and was made even better by the team on-site who helped support us with everything we needed before and during the weekend. We want to say a particular thank you to Henry for all of his help and guidance!
"Thank you to you all and we wish future brides and grooms all the best with upcoming weddings at Ash Barton. It truly is such a magnificent venue!"
