Incorporating Photos into Your Wedding Day

Advice    14.10.2020

Photographs are a huge part of any wedding day. So incorporating photos of you and your partner, your families and friends into the ceremony or reception, is the perfect way to celebrate past events, introduce guests to one another and remember those who can’t be with you.

Old Family Weddings

Everyone loves a trip down memory lane looking at old wedding photographs. So have your parents dig out pictures of their own wedding day, and those old black and white pictures of your grandparents’ big day too while they're at it. Old family wedding photographs are especially poignant if these family members are no longer with you and it's a lovely way to incorporate them into your day. Pin your photos to the wall or a board. Or frame them in antique frames and place them on the dessert or drinks table where everyone can see them.

Family Tree

Take the idea of a family tree to the next level and wrap old family photos round an actual tree. Have copies made of your favourite family pictures through the years and frame them in a selection of mismatched frames. You can pick these up second-hand. Simply thread wire through the back of the frame and attach them to the wire wrapped round the tree. (Avoid nails.)

This is perfect if you’re having an open air wedding, as it gives your guests something to look at and chat about while they’re waiting for the ceremony to start.

As with all weddings, there are lots of guests who don't know each other. Pinning up photos of the bridesmaids, groomsmen and your closest friends and family is a simple way for people to get quickly acquainted. Choose individual pictures of your guests. Or select photos where you're in the picture too, including past holidays, parties and celebrations.

Childhood Memories

Cute baby pictures or first-day-at-school photos of the happy couple always raise a smile. Raid the old family albums for images from your childhood, make copies of your favourite photos and pin them up with pegs. You can also use your childhood pictures on the tables too. Use photos from when you were both four on table 4 and from when you were five on table 5 and so on.

The Courtship

It's fun to share photos from your dating years so your guests can how you are as a couple and the journey you’ve taken together. Include pictures of your first date, the places you’ve visited, the restaurants you’ve dined at and the adventures you’ve enjoyed. If you’ve had engagement photos taken, you can include these too. Leave space on the prints, so you can write where and when the photos were taken.

Polaroids of the Day

A Polaroid camera is quick and instant way to capture the day’s events as they unfold. Let your guests loose with a camera and have them pin up the pictures they take on a photo wall. Or stick them into a guest book and get them to add a personal message.

Photobooth Fun

Or why not have your very own photo area or photobooth set up at the reception complete with props, hats and comedy glasses? As the night wears on and the champagne is flowing, encourage everyone to dress up and have their picture taken. The results are often hilarious.
