Perfect Ten: An interview with Terri of Pinned to Perfection
Interviews 10.11.2021
On your wedding day you want your hair to be – well – perfect. So we were pleased to catch up with Terri of the perfectly named Pinned to Perfection to talk about boho waves, memorable weddings and the hair styling product she can’t live without.
What do you most love about an Ash Barton wedding?
“I love Ash Barton’s vibe. It’s so chilled and they make it so easy to have your wedding exactly as you want it. I also love the different options you have on where to hold your ceremony. The big party barn in particular never fails to blow me away. I would have a party in there! I also love all of the mirrors!”
What’s been the most memorable wedding you’ve helped with?
“I think one of my most memorable weddings at Ash Barton is Jane and Brendan’s. It was quite an extravaganza, with a Romeo and Juliet theme, and the ceremony was carried out by drag queens and the bride had angel wings! I stayed with my assistant for most of the day as we changed Jane’s hair from a down hairstyle to an up style for the evening. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming, offering us food and drink and to party with them (I did have a little dance on the dance floor!). It was so much fun and there were some fabulous outfits worn.”
“My hair was done by Terri from Pinned to Perfection. She was fantastic! I had my hair curled with the front in a loose waterfall braid. I covered this with a hat for the beach scene, then my hair was put up for the ball scene.” Jane, Ash Barton bride
What time do you usually arrive at Ash Barton? What’s the running order of events?

“I arrive at whatever time suits the running order of the day, and it’s mostly governed by how many people are requiring my services. I have arrived as early as 7am before! I only do hair but will always work with the make-up artists to ensure the smooth running of the day.
“I like to start with the bride doing all the prep work for her hair and then I’m happy to work in any order that suits the bridal party. I finish with the bride so her hair is freshly done before putting the dress on. The veil usually goes on as the very last thing I do before I literally ‘get out of their hair”!
What’s the biggest group you’ve ever done?
“On my own I can do up to five people but with my assistant I can do 10 people. The most I’ve ever done is 11 people but that may have included a couple of flower girls!"
“Terri styled six guests and bridal hair on the day and did a wonderful job. Lovely lady and very talented.” Megan, Ash Barton bride
Do you do a hair test run before the big day?
“Yes, I offer trials from my home salon which is about a 25 minute drive from Ash Barton. I liaise with my brides from the moment they book me, and I get them booked in for a trial look so soon as possible. If a bride cannot make it for a trial, then I encourage them to send images of styles they like so I can be prepared for them on the day.”
How did you get into doing wedding hair?
“I’ve been a hair stylist for 30 years and from day one I was in the salon doing hair-ups. I’ve also taught hairdressing but decided to cut down on my teaching and set up my wedding business about eight years ago with a friend who was doing wedding make-up back home in Portsmouth. I moved to Devon four and a half years ago and my wedding business has flourished here as I have more time to devote to it, which I love!”
“What Terri does with hair is fantastic. She gave us all exactly what we asked for and somehow exceeded our expectations.” Lisa, Ash Barton bride
Do you have particular style you like to do?
“My style is very boho/beachy. I really enjoy doing very relaxed styles which are very ‘done’ but look very undone. I do enjoy creating a sleek/elegant style as well.”
What are the big trends in wedding hair right now?
“Texture, Texture and Texture! Lived in hair, whether that’s a down style or an up style, texture is the most requested look. Fresh flowers, in particular gypsophila, are still very popular and suit a textured style perfectly.”
“Terri did my hair, my bridesmaids and Mum. While she probably detected my nerves, she was lovely and calming in a sea of bridesmaids, make-up and dresses! She was wonderful and our hair looked beautiful!” Jackie, Ash Barton bride
Do you have any favourite brands you use?
“I’m a Wella girl and have always used their products. But one of my favourite products is Schwarzkopf Tame Wild, to help deal with all those pesky flyaway hairs!”
And lastly, what tips would you give to an Ash Barton bride to ensure her day runs smoothly?
“I would say relax and take in every moment. Wedding days can often go in a flash so take some time during your day to really ‘see’ and take in the day.
“Remember everyone is there because they love you and want to see you marry the love of your life. It won’t matter if a table decoration isn’t quite right or your dress has a slight crease in it.
“Also book Katie from Best day Ever. That woman is a creative genius!”
